Here is the list of undergraduate medical courses offered in India-

MBBS

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is the most popular medical courses. The total duration of this course is 5.5 years (including 1 year of internship). It is one of the toughest courses that require a lot of study and practice. Students with 10+2 science stream (physics, chemistry, biology) with minimum 50% are eligible for this course. Admission to MBBS is done only on the basis of an entrance test i.e. NEET UG.

Medical students after completing MBBS can also go for various MS and MD courses depending on their interests. NEET PG is one of the popular national level entrance exams for admission in MD and MS courses.

BDS

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the second choice of students after MBBS if they want to pursue a career in the medical field. The duration of this course is 5 years (including internship). BDS course enables you to be a Dentist or a Dental Surgeon.  Students with 10+2 science stream (physics, chemistry, biology, and English) with minimum 50% are eligible for this course. Admission to this course is also done on the basis of NEET UG every year.

MDS- Master of Dental Surgery is a postgraduate degree course in dentistry. The duration of this course is 3 years which include a specialization in a particular subject. Students after completing BDS or a PG diploma from a recognized university or dental institutes are eligible for admission in MDS. Admissions are usually done on the basis of entrance exams.

 

U.M.S

Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery is equivalent to MBBS. Candidates looking forward to work in the field of Unani medicine can pursue this course. It is an ancient medical science and curing system. The duration of this course is 5.5 years. The eligible for BUMS is 10+2 with minimum of 50% with PCB group. NEET and KEAM are some of the popular exams through which aspirants can get admission into this course.

 

H.M.S

BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5 ½ years bachelors degree course in the Homeopathic field. 10+2 with a PCB with at least 50% is called required for this course. Admissions are done only on the basis of the entrance test.

 

A.M.S

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a degree course based on the ancient system of Ayurveda. It is a 5 years 6 months course. Candidates have to go through a NEET test for admission into this course. Aspirants with PCB group in 10+2 are eligible for this course.

If a student wants to pursue a post graduation course after B.A.M.S then he/she can go for MD (Ayurveda)/ MS (Ayurveda). MD/MS (Ayurveda) is a 3 years PG course. Apart from this students can also opt for Post Graduate Diploma in Ayurveda, which a 6 months diploma course.

Pharma

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma) is an undergraduate course which is all about the preparation of medicines, drugs, Biochemical field, and Pharmacy. After completing B.Pharma candidates can get a job in the Pharmaceutical industry or they can start their own medical shop and related enterprise. Candidates can get entry to this course through an entrance exam.

M.Pharma- Masters of Pharmacy is a 2 years bachelor’s degree course in Pharmacy. Students with a B.Pharma degree with minimum 50% are eligible for this course. GPAT is one of the popular national pharmacy entrance exams. BITS, Pilani, NIPER, Mohali are some of the popular institutes from where you can pursue M.Pharma. Pharmacists, Drug inspector, Analytical Chemist, Teacher/ Lecturer are some of the job profile that a student can get after M.Pharma.

 

B.Sc Nursing

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) is a 4 years bachelors degree course in Nursing.  The eligibility for this course is 10+2 with PCB group. There are many top colleges like AIIMS, JIPMER etc that offers B.Sc Nursing course. Admission to this course is done on the basis of entrance exams.  After completing B.Sc Nursing candidates become a certified nurse and can get a job in a Hospitals, clinic, Defense services, governmental health departments etc.

M.Sc Nursing- Once students have completed their B.Sc nursing from a recognized college they can go for M.Sc nursing to excel and do specialization in the field of nursing and allied science. It is a two-year postgraduate degree. For admission in M.Sc candidates must be a B.Sc nursing/ B.Sc (Hons.) graduate in Nursing. Various universities and medical institutes conduct entrance exams for admission in M.Sc Nursing.

 

P.T (Physiotherapy)

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T) is an undergraduate degree course focused on the study of therapeutic exercises, manual theory, electro-physical modalities to cure the patients suffering from various diseases. Students of this course are taught about various physiotherapeutic skills. The duration of this course is 4.5 years and students after 10+2 (PCB group) can get admission into this course.  There are several institutes and university level entrance exams for B.P.T through which interested candidates can get admissions.

M.P.T- If students want to pursue higher education in physiotherapy they can opt for MPT (Maters of Physiotherapy) after B.P.T. It is two years post graduate degree course. Candidates must have secured 50% aggregate marks in B.P.T. Admission is usually done on the basis of an entrance exam and counseling procedure.

 

O.T (Occupational Theory)

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) is a 4 ½ years (including 6 months of internship) bachelors degree course. After completing this course students become a trained occupational therapist.

M.O.T-  (Maters of Occupational Therapy) is a post-graduate degree in Occupational Therapy that students can pursue after BOT. The duration of MOT is 2 years. After completing this course and getting a practice license you can get a job in private or government hospitals.

AIIMS MBBS is the second most popular Medical entrance exam in India. JIPMER MBBS

Jawaharlal Institute Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry conducts another entrance exam for the admission of candidates in MBBS course in JIPMER and its affiliated colleges.
